Privacy policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026
Tradkr is a calorie and nutrition diary provided by Dan Ballance, publishing as Nix at Bitshield.dev. This policy covers the Tradkr Android app. For questions about privacy or support, email privacy@bitshield.dev.
Your diary stays on your device
Your food diary, meal amounts, dates, nutrition records, notes, targets, saved foods and local profile identifier are stored in the app's private storage on your device. Tradkr does not require an account, upload your diary to us or synchronise it to a server. We cannot read or recover your diary.
The app has no advertising or analytics SDK. Android's automatic cloud backup and device transfer are disabled for the app. Device security, including your screen lock, helps protect the local data.
Optional online food lookups
When you request an online food search or barcode lookup, Tradkr contacts Open Food Facts over HTTPS. It sends the barcode or submitted food-search words, language and pagination parameters as needed. Requests also include the public app name, app version and maintainer contact, and normal network information such as your IP address.
Your diary dates, quantities eaten, targets, notes and local profile identifier are not included. Searching your saved foods or recent foods does not contact Open Food Facts. Avoid entering personal or sensitive information into an online food-search field.
Open Food Facts handles requests under its own privacy policy. Its handling and retention of network logs are outside our control. Tradkr retains food details you save or log on your device, along with their source and licence attribution, so you can reuse them offline.
Camera permission
The camera is used only when you open the barcode scanner and grant camera permission. Barcode recognition takes place on the device. Camera images are not uploaded or saved by Tradkr. You can deny or revoke camera access and continue logging food manually.
Backups you control
You may export a password-protected, encrypted backup using Settings → Backup and restore. You choose the destination through Android's file picker. If you choose a cloud storage provider, that provider receives the encrypted file under its own terms and privacy policy; Tradkr does not select or operate that service.
Backups include your diary, local profile, saved foods, recent foods, meal groups, targets and day records. Keep your password separately from the file. We cannot recover a forgotten backup password. The password is used on your device and is not sent to us.
Retention and deletion
Local records remain until you change or remove them, replace them by restoring a backup, delete all local data, or uninstall the app. To clear the diary, open Settings → Backup and restore → Delete local data and complete the confirmation. Uninstalling also removes the app's private local data.
Exported backup files are separate copies. Delete those wherever you saved them, including any cloud storage or additional copies. Because we do not hold your diary, requests emailed to us cannot delete or recover its local records.
If you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include so we can respond and resolve your enquiry. Please do not send your diary, backup password or sensitive nutrition information. We retain correspondence only as needed to handle the enquiry and related records, and you can contact us about access or deletion.
Using this policy page
This page has no advertising, analytics scripts or tracking cookies. Its hosting provider processes normal web request information, including IP addresses, to deliver and secure the page. Visiting this page does not send your diary to the website.
Changes and contact
We will update this policy if the app's data practices change, and update the date above. Contact privacy@bitshield.dev with questions or requests relating to data we actually hold.
